One of the advantages of a prenuptial agreement is that having one helps to eliminate potential disputes over distribution of assets in the event of a breakup. It can be a basic element of a successful inexpensive, uncontested divorce too, though it isn't a necessity for Pennsylvania couples who see the value in making the process as stress free as possible by agreeing before filing papers.

That's not likely to be the situation for Demi Moore, 49, and Ashton Kutcher, 33. Despite having signed a prenuptial agreement at the start of their marriage in 2005, published reports now say that the couple is at odds over an appropriate division of property and assets. The key tipping point for the scales may be how their respective earning powers has shifted since they tied the knot.

News reports say that at the start of the marriage, Moore had more than $150 million in the bank and was earning a hefty $20 million per movie. She also collected some $80 million from Bruce Willis at the end of her second marriage.

Since then, Moore's star has dimmed and Kutcher's has started to ascend. One Forbes analyst reportedly puts her 2011 earnings at a mere $5 million. Kutcher, meanwhile, is set to earn an estimated $7 million just from his starring role on "Two and a Half Men." It's unclear what his revenue stream may be from his commercial spots.

The split comes amid months of rumors that Kutcher has been unfaithful. Moore told the Associated Press last week that she's saddened by the prospect of the divorce, but sources close to Moore are quoted as saying that she intends to get even by going after the money.
