One of the intended benefits of simple, uncontested divorce in Pennsylvania is to allow couples who have decided that ending their marriage quickly is the best opportunity to move on with their lives.
Some splits don't always work that way. For example, there is the divorce of Jann and Jane Wenner. They're the couple behind Wenner Media which founded Rolling Stone magazine and which publishes such periodicals as Us Weekly, Men's Journal and Family Life. They've been estranged for nearly 20 years, ever since it surfaced that he was in a gay relationship.
When word of that affair broke back in 1995, there was some speculation that the husband-wife split would mean the end of the publishing company. But no divorce was filed until this year, when Jann filed for divorce in New York in June. It became final last month and was entered into the record earlier this month--so ended 43 years of marriage.
That sparked a whole new round of speculation about the future of the company. But, according to a New York Post source, it turns out that there may never have been any cause for concern. The source, unnamed of course, says a trust was set up years ago to protect the company. The source also says it has continued to operate with the Wenners splitting profits and passing on ownership of the enterprise to their children and some nephews and nieces.
Now, conjecture centers on what it took to resolve the divorce and what may be in the future for Jann Wenner. Speculators say they think he agreed to pay her a multimillion-dollar settlement, and that he's looking to marry his male lover, now that same-sex marriage is legal in New York.
